Working together to improve public safety and awareness

The Distribution Public Awareness Council (DPAC) is a member-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting natural gas distribution utility companies across the United States. Founded as a grassroots initiative, DPAC emerged to fill a critical gap in representation for distribution companies within the broader pipeline industry.

DPAC members bring a wide range of expertise in key areas vital to public awareness, including damage prevention, communications, regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and industry collaboration.

The organization fosters a collaborative environment where members can work together to tackle shared challenges related to pipeline public awareness and community safety. Members exchange best practices for implementing and evaluating compliance programs required under 49 CFR 192.616. DPAC also serves as a platform for developing consensus-based standards tailored to distribution pipeline operators and contributes to the creation of broader industry standards for public awareness and safety outreach.

Representing 31 states, more than 500,000 miles of distribution pipe, and serving over 43 million natural gas customers, DPAC serves as a unified voice for the industry. By fostering collaboration and sharing best practices, DPAC works to improve community safety nationwide.
